Its been a difficult time lately for frequent travelers due to the frequent strikes and now, natural disasters causing flights delays and cancellations. It’s all about Glee

Musicals have always struck a chord with viewers. It doesn’t matter if The Sound Of Music, Annie or Grease is more your taste there is definitely one that suits everybody. Musicals have become so popular they even appeared on Broadway and now this special genre is in the headlines once more with the smash hit musical TV series Glee.

Glee is set in an American High school and focuses on the Glee club in the school. Featuring a likable cast and a very interesting selection of popular songs the TV show has been an instant success since it was first broadcast back in 1999. Fans also have the joy of being able to download the songs featured on the song through iTunes. It can’t simply just be the merchandising and songs that keeps the audience hooked however, what is the secret to the appeal and success of this show?

The fans known as “Gleeks” tend to range from the very young pre-teens to the older generation. All of which obviously watch the show for different reasons. The teenagers could simply be happy singing along to a popular tune, however you more experienced mature adult will look beyond a catchy song and see the depth of the show. Many see it as clever script writing with the songs just being a small bonus, so the widespread appeal is really all down to all the good elements of good writing combined.

The show is already on its third season and with a hotly anticipated Madonna episode coming up fans have yet to complain about any direction it makes. It has been quite some time since a High School based TV show has been on the screens so who knows if Glee will lead the way for many shows of a similar premise. For now its in a league of its own with fans anxiously awaiting the new season.

Save the whales

“Save the Whales”. A slogan that has long being spoken by animal activists and those involved in the environmental movement. Sadly despite the constant fights and laws whales are still in severe danger of extinction due to the constant attacks they face. After the first anti-hunting regulations where passed the whale population seemed to be on the rise, now though the topic has been raised once more with delegates from around the world due to decide if commercial hunts should be condoned once more.

The IWC ( International Whaling Commission) are considering a controversial plan to seek a truce in this endless battle. The only 3 countries that have defied laws are Japan, Norway and Iceland, all of them insist that they are in their right to use the ocean and the in recent years their whale hunting has expanded. The compromise currently been debated hopes to cut down on the number of whales killed, by considering approval for commercial hunting, therefore the three countries in question will have to drop the number of whale hunting escapades they carry out.

The details of this debate will be made public on Earth day April 22nd where hopefully the right resolution will be met on this issue and many more. Aside from the threat of humans whales also have to fear pollution in every aspect, the sea’s are a threat to most life living under there. What most people don’t know about whales is they are one of the most intelligent mammals and have been known to assist those lost at sea. Its a great tragedy the day one of the worlds most beautiful creatures faces a threat so people should do what they can to protect them.

While animal lovers, whale watchers, and those who respect the ocean, await for the verdict on the future of whales the rest of us should learn more about these creatures, and see how its necessary that we protect them at all costs.
